Deconstructing an Argument By the end of this course, you'll be able to dissect an argument in two seconds flat, but at the moment you might find it difficult to see exactly how a speech has been constructed and how it manages to be
successful or not. Find another video of a persuasive speech online, this time in English. It doesn't matter whether you're already familiar with it or not. Listen carefully to the speech several times and try to write
down a plan of the speaker's main points. Assess whether or not the claims he or she makes are really justified. Is everything they say really backed up by a factor figure, and ifitis, do you think this fact or figure
is reliable? Are there any parts of the speech you didn't understand or weren't persuaded by? Make detailed notes of around 300 words or more. A good selection of speeches can be found at
http://www. ted. com or you can use any site)
