Suppose my plan for the last week was that I’d spend today studying, but today I’ve decided it’s not worth it and I’d rather go shopping. Assume I’m not violating the rule that tells me to maximize expected utility, since enjoying myself now is more worthwhile to me than the future benefit of studying. Explain what’s going wrong and why this way of proceeding is a problem for me.
