Learning by Doing Analyzing a Piece of Writing The letter below is directed to subscribers of the magazine, Zapped! Examine the letter and determine how well its writer seems to understand his or her writing situation. As you analyze, circle words and make notes in the margins of the page that 1) indicate letter’s purpose, 2) describe its target audience, and 3) evaluate how well the choice of genre (a letter, as opposed to a postcard or email) reflects the writer’s sense of purpose and audience.
