English Reading with skills 9th edition chapter 2 Prewriting Activity 1: To get a sense of the freewriting process, take a sheet of paper and freewrite about different jobs you have had and what you liked or did not like about them. See how much material you can accumulate in ten minutes. Remember not to worry about “mistakes”; you are just thinking on paper. Read over the material that you generated and decide which job you have the most information about. Then do more focused freewriting on that particular job.

Activity 2: To get a feel for the questioning process, use a sheet of paper to ask yourself a series of questions about your best and worst jobs. What did you like about the jobs? What did you dislike? What were the working conditions like? See how many details you can accumulate in ten minutes. Remember not to be concerned about “mistakes” because you are just thinking on paper.

Activity 3: To get a sense of making a list, use a sheet of paper to list a series of details about one of the best or worst jobs you ever had. Don’t worry about deciding whether the details are major or minor; instead, just get down as many details as you can think of in five or ten minutes.

Activity 4: Use clustering or another type of diagramming to organize the details about a best or worst job that you created for the previous activity (page 23).
