In his hallucination, he imagines, that the air is becoming darker and denser with the 'perfume from an unseen censer'. And that the censer was held by an angel sent from God. He thinks that it is well for him to drink this potion, so overcome the grief of loss of his love. And this might help him to forget Lenore.
