The excerpt is talking about when the photos of all victims in 9/11 terrorist attack are aligned next to each other, a certain map of the world can be created, a map which shows how many cultures were victims of the attack. To the narrator, this is a wonder, which is a positive thing given that it shows how people are connected and live together happily.
