There are many types of figurative language such as simile, metaphor, personification, hyperbole, allusion, etc. An example would be "the cloud is a fluffy pillow". In this the cloud is not literally a pillow, but it helps the reader to picture the cloud because it compares the shape and fluffiness of the cloud to a pillow.
