The people in this story were living in darkness. Raven wanted to help then so he turned himself into a spruce needle. Sky Chief's daughter went to drink water and swallowed the spruce needle. She became pregnant and had a baby boy - Raven. As a baby boy, Raven found a ball of light and released the light. He then turned back into a bird. The Sky Chief was wise; he knew what Raven was doing and allowed him continue. This shows that family is the most important to the Haida people.
