The prison is somber, so much so that the prisoner can hardly make out what is inside the prison and what are its dimensions. He can tell that there is a pit that drops to God knows where. The prisoner awaits his torments without certainty of what is to follow, and once the pendulum begins its slow descent, the agony is unbearable. Most decidedly, the story´s atmosphere is unsettling.
