Petrarch ( Francesco Petrarca) was a scholar and poet of Renaissance Italy who was one of the earliest humanists.

Petrarch´s poetic style influenced later english love poetry by establishing a way to express feelings using intricate " metaphor, paradox ..Petrach´s was able to use extreme contrast to establish a wide range of complex emotions".
