What obstacles did john f. kennedy overcome in order to prove his credibility to the american people at his time in history?

He had to try and catch up with the Soviet Union in the space race he also  had to make a decision with the cuban missile crisiis and he had to deal with Texas the 2nd biggest state as well disapproving of him. He was shot while trying to (get up close)
