Dialogue can have a very large impact on a story's pacing. The pacing of a story refers to how quickly or slowly the events of the story unfold. The author can indicate this through dialogue. A story that has a lot of dialogue tends to have a slower pace. However, the speakers can also signal this through the words they use. If the dialogue uses a lot of descriptions and details, the pacing of the text will be slower. On the other hand, rushed dialogue and short sentences can help signal a slow pace.
