Irony is used in satire.
Satire aims to show the vices, folly and the likes of human nature through the use of sarcasm or irony. It is a literary genre that attacks and ridicules foolish ideas. Humor on the other hand, is ‘the quality of being funny’. It simply aims to elicit laughter among its audience. Humor fails when it is not funny or when someone does not get the joke while satire doesn’t always have to be funny. Satires make people think about the behaviors are ideas it attacks. While puns are jokes that explore the different possible meanings of one word or words that sound alike but mean differently.
