The main protagonist of "The Crucible" by Arthur Miller, John Proctor is a tragic hero. He is a good man but with one fatal flaw, having an affair with his previous help, Abigail. When the young girls along with Abigail are accused of practicing witchcraft, they in turn accused Elizabeth, Proctor's wife. In order for Elizabeth to be saved from the death sentence, John Proctor admits to his affair with Abigail. But Judge Danforth thinks that Proctor is also practicing witchcraft. His suspicions grew more when he realizes that Danforth plows on Sundays instead of going to the church. If he had been a true Christian, he would be attending churches on Sundays. Working on Sundays is like the complete opposite of being a christian.
