In rip van winkle, irving uses imagery to describe the setting of the story. he uses vivid colors and descriptions to make the leader see what RIP is seeing and feel Rip Van Winkle is feeling. He is also using personification as he describes that katsill Mountains as lothed in blue and purple"and they print bold outlines on clearn evening sky.¨
