People's health suffered significantly because they no longer had money or access to food, as well the crops died and any food available was not nutritious or there wasn't enough of it. Finally, child labor increased because they would often do work for next to nothing and even for free in the hope that they could provide for their families. Those hiring them did not have enough money to give to adults, or chose to not hire them because they would require more money.
