I believe it's "could miss an invaluable opportunity", I'm not good at explaining but I'll try...he's saying that by not following God the way he intended, changing yourself for the better (like if you do drugs or if you have murdered someone, just done something bad and keep doing it and you don't repent), and just not throwing yourself on his mercy and not asking him to help you, that you are missing the chance to live forever and to be his friend. Of course, you shouldn't follow him just because you don't want to die, but if you truly are sorry for any sins you have committed, he will forgive you and he will help you.. (sorry if I didn't make sense)

The excerpt begins with the statement "And now you have an extraordinary opportunity". He is introducing his readers to the idea that they have a choice. There is something that they can do; they have the power to take advantage of. The phrase "extraordinary opportunity" makes this seem as though it is not around forever and that it is a great deal: almost too good to pass up. He then goes on to invite action when he says "How awful is it to be left behind!" and "How can you rest one moment in such a condition?". Edwards is asking for the readers to take advantage of this chance at salvation.

Readers "can relax once they decide to follow him" is completely wrong. There is nothing in the passage that states that people will be able to relax once converted. He says that they will be "in a happy state" and there will be much "rejoicing and singing for joy of heart". This is not the same as relaxing.

He also is not telling that they "will never understand contentment.." He is trying to show that they can obtain happiness by repenting their sins and choosing Christ. While he does mention that they will be "in the same miserable condition", he is not trying to convince them that they can never achieve contentment. In fact, he says they can, if only they convert.

This is the same reasoning for the last choice of feeling pain and sadness. He is not trying to convince them that they will always feel this, but instead convince them of a way to obtain the opposite through this opportunity.
