1. National identity/ Nationalism

1. Political ideology

Differences in political beliefs can strongly divide a nation. The American politics is partisan. The rising of  two opposing parties in the 1790s is example of ideologies causing a division of State.

Purchasing capacity, isolating the rich and poor has caused a split in the citizens of a State. Wealth inequality reported in 2014 wherein only 1% possess 40% of the nation's wealth, clearly depicts a great division between people with economic ranks.

It decides a sovereign state--  a defined area,  a permanent population for the zone and enables the citizens to recognize property and attachment, defend it  from violations and prosecute offences.
