The latitude is a key factor is the climate patters and of sunlight received. This is due to the shape of our planet, which doesn't allow all places to have the same amount of sunlight.

So the places at low latitudes, are places that receive lots of sunlight throughout the whole year, and this part of the planet receives more direct and concentrated sunlight, which makes it the warmest part of the Earth.  

The mid-latitudes have a colder climate compared to the low latitude parts, and this is due to the inclination of our planet, and because of the rounded shape. The sunlight in this parts comes as more dispersed over a bigger place, so this places receive weaker sunlight, and are colder.

The places at high latitudes receive sunlight at very low angles, and that makes them very dispersed and they barely manage to do any heating. Also, around the poles have of the year this regions are not even having any sunlight, but total darkness. These are the coldest places on the planet.
