In order to bolster its economy, but also remaining responsible for the environment, Costa Rica has been focusing towards the fair trade tourism.

This type of tourism, is beneficial for all sides:

- it is a tourism that promotes fair working conditions and wages for the workers in the tourist sector;

- it is protecting the cultural aspect of a country or a region;

- it protects the environment and it is promoting its value in order to motivate the tourists to do the same;

- it is respecting and promoting the human rights;
