While South America, Central America, and up to California, there's a significant increase in the rainfall, thus also slightly lower temperatures because of it, the northwestern part of the Pacific experiences the total opposite. The winters in the northwest are actually warmer on average and drier, resulting much less snowfall. This affects badly the economy of this parts as there are numerous winter tourist centers, but when El Nino is in action they do not have enough snowfall, or even when they get it often melts very quickly.
