The direction toward the south pole from the equator is

When we move from equator towards South Pole, then the direction is south.

The equator is a parallel line and an imaginary line which passes through center of the globe. The equator is a latitude with 0 degree. The region which is in the upper side of the equator is celled northern hemisphere whereas the region which is in the lower side of the equator is called southern hemisphere.
