The ozone layer is a layer found in the larger layer called stratosphere. The ozone is a layer made up of ozone, which is basically a chemical substance made from three oxygen atoms (0³).

The main role that this layer has is to absorb the ultraviolet light that comes from the Sun. The ultraviolet light is very harmful, and if it's not stopped it literary fry pretty much every living organism on Earth. The ozone manages to stop most of this light, thus acting as a protector of the life on Earth.

While the stopping and burning of meteorites is not attributed to the ozone layer, it does actually play part in it, though only as part of the whole atmosphere. It is not a layer that has the leading role in this process, but only helps slightly in it.
