Juche is the official religion/philosophy of North Korea. It is not a typical religion and religious philosophy though. Juche is actually a mixture of culture, more specifically the Korean culture, and political ideology, more specifically the Chinese communist ideology.

This came to be as a result of the North Korean leaders after the peninsula was split into two countries. The North Korean leading family was big admiration for the Chinese communism implemented by Mao Zedong. They tried to implement the same type of communism in North Korea as well, and largely did so, just that they went even further, they mixed it with the Korean culture.

Mixing the communism with the Korean culture, and forcing it on the people as a new religion/philosophy, created a unique culture and way of living in North Korea, which continues to the present.
