-Canada occupies the northern region of America, more precisely, 42% of North America. Its only neighbor is the United States, which is limited to the south with the continental United States and to the northwest with the state of Alaska. On the south coast of Newfoundland and Labrador is Saint Pierre and Miquelon, an overseas territory of France.
Canada is the second largest country in area in the world, behind only Russia. About 60% of the country's population lives in the Great Lakes/Saint Lawrence River Valley region. To the north of this densely populated region is the Canadian Shield, which stretches across the north of the country, covering about 55% of Canada. The region's soil had been heavily eroded by glaciers and strong winds in the Ice Age. This soil is characterized by being constituted by extremely hard rocks, and by being rich in minerals. About 60% of the lakes and 40% of the world's fresh water are contained within the country's territorial limits.
Terra Nova is located at the mouth of the Gulf of Saint Lawrence, the largest estuary in the world. The provinces of New Brunswick and Nova Scotia are divided by the Bay of Fundy, where the greatest tidal variations occur. Prince Edward Island, Canada's smallest province, is also located in the region.
To the west of Ontario, and to the east of the Rocky Mountains, are the Canadian Praires, which is characterized by its relatively rugged terrain and relatively fertile soil.
The far north of Canada is formed by a vast archipelago, containing several of the largest islands in the world.
-Texas is the second largest state in the United States, both in area (surpassed by Alaska) and in population (only behind California). Texas is also home to a number of North American and US major cities. This includes cities like Houston, Dallas, San Antonio, Forth Worth and El Paso. The state is located in the southern parts of the Great Plains, which end at eastern Sierra Madre in northern Mexico. It is in the central part of the United States.
Texas has a wide variation in geographical conditions, due to its colossal size. Here are both large mountain ranges and fertile plains. The climate varies between seasons. Most places have cool winters and scorching hot summers. A number of hurricanes and tornadoes hit Texas regularly.
The Rio Grande, Red River and Sabine River constitute natural state boundaries of Oklahoma in the north, Louisiana and Arkansas in the east, and the Mexican states of Chihuahua, Nuevo Leon and Tamaulipas in the south.
