The earthquake started in the morning at about 7:18 AM, with the subduction zone with the plate boundaries of the Cocos tectonic plate and the North American tectonic plate. As we might be wondering, what had created the disastrous earthquake. The lithosphere is split into pieces called plate tectonics, which were each given a name. These plates move in small amounts per year - either towards, past, or away from each other. Small changes alike to these can cause and create the world’s natural disasters. On the year of 1985, an earthquake or better known as The Michoacán Earthquake of 1985 or the Mexico City Earthquake of 1985 was created do to these tectonic plates. A subduction zone occurred as the oceanic floor of the Cocos plate moves in a convergent boundary and brings the plate below the continental tectonic North American plate. As years past with the two plates stay in place caused by friction, building stress at the breaking point. On September 15, 1985, the stress that was build up in the subduction zone releases. The release causes the Cocos plate to move rapidly below the North American plate as the North American Plate moves over the Cocos plate. The shockwave is the thrust caused by the force of friction which then caused the Michoacán Earthquake of 1985. The shockwave is recorded by the magnitude at 8.0.
