By far the biggest desert on earth is the one that stretches from North Africa east across Arabia, Iran, and beyond. It’s so big that it has many names, depending on the area you’re talking about. The Sahara itself, for example, includes many regions and varies greatly in its physical appearance. On Map 148, there are several 56. or "sand seas" in Algeria, and they give their name to regions there. Map 155 shows the large empty area in SE Iran corresponds to the 57.. Leave the Desert off of the name. It's redundant. Dasht-e already means "desert," and Lut means "Emptiness." Here is a photo below to give you an idea of exactly why Iranians don't live there.
