Investigating Early Cultures of Oklahoma The study of history involves learning about the past. However, that's not all that historians do. They also
analyze and apply information about the past to explain how people, societies, and regions have changed ove
time. In this task, you'll take on the role of a historian. You'll choose one tribe from early Oklahoma history to
investigate. You'll then research where and how that tribe lived during the period prior to contact with
Europeans. You'll also compare how the tribe's way of life was similar to and different from life today.

Choose one of the following tribes to investigate:
Osage

Comanche
• Caddo
• Apache
• Kiowa
Note the name of the tribe you selected. Then write down two facts you already know about the tribe and
two things you'd like to know. Some examples of information you might want to know include where the
tribe lived, what its economy was like, who its leaders were, and what its religion was like.
