Auckland, New Zealand is mostly covered by volcanoes. In Auckland city there are 49 discrete volcanoes; this is the area referred to as the Auckland volcanic field.

Reason 1: It owns its origin to the presence of a region of hot rock knows hot spot or plume located about 100km beneath the city. In this hotspot, temperatures are high enough so that rock begins to melt.

Reason 2: Each volcanic cone in Auckland stems from a separate eruption from the pool of magma that lies under the city. It’s unlikely that the magma will push through in the same place twice, so each volcano that can be seen on today’s landscape can be though of as format.
