Write a Personal Research Project During the next few lessons, you will be planning, preparing, and delivering a personal research project. You’ll present four (or more) personal, family, or cultural experiences and connect each one to a historical event or fact from that time. You’ll add a written personal reflection or a piece of media that illustrates the meaning of each experience or event to you. Your project structure and meaning will be similar to The Way to Rainy Mountain.
Use the steps described here to complete your assignment. Your final presentation will be scored by your teacher.
Planning
The structure of your personal research project will be modeled on the structure of The Way to Rainy Mountain.
You will complete this assignment using PowerPoint® or other presentation software.
Plan seven (or more) slides or pages. The first slide is your Introduction.
Slides 2–5 are the content slides. Each content slide or the page will be divided into three parts:
1. An experience, event, or tradition from your life or your family’s lives or your culture.
2. A historical event or fact from the same time
3. Either your personal reflection about the experience or a piece of media that shows the connection between the personal experience and the historical experience
Slide 6 is the conclusion of your presentation. In two or three paragraphs, analyze the structure of The Way to Rainy Mountain and show how the structure affects the impact of that book. How did the same structure affect your project’s impact?
The seventh slide is a list of the sources you cited.
Drafting
A PowerPoint® template has been provided for you to create your presentation:
NG_ELA9-10_W_08_Day2_Research_Proje ct_Template. pptx
Important: You will need to create more slides in the PPTX template for experiences 2–4 (or more).
You may use the style in the template exactly as is, or you may create your own style by revising the layout, changing colors, and so on. Remember to use clear, simple, readable layouts and fonts.
If you choose to use this template, save it to your desktop with your name at the end; for example, NG_ELA9-10_W_08_Day2_Research_Proje ct_Alice_Jones. pptx, and use it to create your presentation. {If you use presentation software other than the PPTX template, name your document using the same filename.) You will submit this document to your teacher as your final project.
Create the first draft of your personal research project:
• Use chronological order.
• Text should be easy to read. Avoid fancy or distracting fonts.
• Make sure any media develops the meaning of the project.
• Media must be legible and sound or video, if any, is of good quality.
• Use the Personal Research Project Draft Revision Checklist.
Save your project often as you work.
