How did laws ending slavery affect different populations of people in the southeast

 Most white Southerners reacted to defeat and emancipation with dismay. Many families had suffered the loss of loved ones and the destruction of property. Some thought of leaving the South altogether, or retreated into nostalgia for the Old South and the Lost Cause of the Confederacy. (in my opinion, I think they reacted with the law of abortion because since slavery ended they needed their own families to work/labor for a living and would not have to pay)
