In China, a single party, the Communist party, controls the government. This means that other political parties are not allowed, and most people do not have an opportunity to participate in government. People who speak out against the government are jailed without trial, and prisoners have no rights to an attorney, a fair hearing, or an appeal. There is no freedom of the press, and the Internet is censored.

It is useful for historians to write narratives so that history can be passed on from their point of view.  think about a story being told in third person, then think about it again being told in first person, by someone who actually experienced the event.
