How do i keep my gum from swelling up with my braces and lower the swelling?

Sometimes the gum tissues just don’t like the proximity of the braces and react by swelling and/or overgrowing. 
Things that can help are:
    Keeping some pressure on the gums using a warm or cool pack.
    Use a salt water solution to clean and help heal the gums
    Gently brush/floss
If this doesn't help, get ahold of your dentist and ask him/her for some more ideas or oral ointments to apply to the sensitive gum areas.
