I have found that reading it out loud helps
also making a game out of it
rewriting it
having someone quiz you
or quiz yourself 

For every type of learning I sit in a really quiet room and turn on a fan for focus noise. And have some instrumental music if you want but not for language arts. Make sure you have all the info so Brainpop helps and a pencil always works haha I hope this helps
