There are alot of short and long term effects on the cardiovascular induced by alcohol. You person my have an increased heart rate, cardiac arrhythmias, decrease in oxygenation and difficulty with nutrients reaching vital organs as your heart pumps blood throughout the body. The long term effects are cardiomyopathy, ischemic stroke, hemorrhagic stroke, and hypertension. Preventative measures include not drinking or drinking in a responsible way, in moderation, eating healthy and exercising 30 minutes per day.

Iwould say being around others who are not drug free is the wrong step because your peers are likely to influence any new or past habits
