The condition where hardening and narrowing of the arteries occurs due to the plague buildup around the artery wall is known as atherosclerosis. the flow of blood is disrupted due to this disease. Arteries are the blood vessels that carry blood to all parts of the body from the heart. The flow of blood is insured by the smooth texture of the inner lining of the arteries which is known as endothelium. The damage of endothelium marks the beginning of atherosclerosis. The artery wall is congested with the cholesterol build up followed by white blood cells arrival to the damaged area. The white blood cells get stuck to the affected site and cause of atherosclerosis.

The loss of elasticity in the walls of the arteries causes arteriosclerosis. The blood flow gradually is restricted by the loss of elasticity and hardening of the arteries. Arteriosclerosis is basically stiffening or hardening of the artery walls whereas atherosclerosis is the narrowing of the artery wall due to plague build-up.

Atherosclerosis sometimes happens to be treated by operational methods or also why breaking open of the plague. Arteriosclerosis on the other hand are not treatable and are usually scene in the old age.
