Intrinsic conduction system of the heart consists of the passage of the electrical impulse from the atrial node to the purkinje fiber system, to produce ventricular contraction.

Explanation:

The heart's electrical conduction system allows the heart to fulfill its blood-pumping functions through the alternating movements of contraction and relaxation of its musculature.

The nerve impulse begins in the sinoatrial node (SA), located at the top of the right atrium. This produces the atrial contraction to pass the blood from the atria to the ventricles. From the SA, the impulse travels to the atrial-ventricular node (AV), located in the interventricular septum. In AV, the impulse is briefly delayed and then transmitted to the His bundle (HB), until the HB splits into a right and a left branch.  The left branch is divided into three fascicles: anterior, middle and posterior. Finally, from each branch and its fascicles originate the Purkinje fibers, which are introduced into the heart muscle and produce - when the nerve impulse arrives - the contraction of both ventricles, and the exit of blood from their cavities.

This series of steps is responsible for the heart being able to pump blood throughout the body.
