The four states of matter are solid, liquid, gas, and plasma. A solid consists of molecules compressed together, they contain the minimum amount of kinetic energy. As for liquid, it's not able to be compressed. It simply takes form to the shape of the container it is held in. Gas has no fixed shape as well as no fixed volume. Lastly, plasma can be thought of as the subset of gas, but both preform very differently. Plasmas are constructed of atoms where some of all of their electrons have been stripped off and positively charged nuclei, also known as ions, wonder freely. Plasma is different from gas because plasma consists of ionized atoms.
