How would your hand function differently if your thumb contained a pivot joint?

If your thumb had a ball and socket joint, it would be able to turn 360 degrees down and up and your had would have trouble holding things steadily.  If your thumb had a pivot joint it would be able to turn backwards and forwards and your hand would function differently because your thumb would not keep forward. 4 consequences you would have if you had a different joint in the thumb in one, you would not be able to hold things steady, two it would be hard to hold everyday objects, 3 your thumb would keep turning, 4 your thumb might not be able to hold many things.
