Compare and contrast dominant and recessive genes

The main difference between dominant gene and recessive gene is that dominant can mask the expression of recessive gene. Recessive gene can’t mask the expression of dominant gene.

Genes are basically fundamental unit of heredity; mainly genes are made up of DNA. Every individual has two copies of each gene there are many difference between the genes from one individual to another.

In new offspring two copy of gene come from both the parents. In genetics, some gene expressed them completely and other cannot. So on that basis gene divide into two types:

Recessive gene Dominant gene

In dominant gene, they are responsible for expression of the character of an individual. They always express the dominant trait and they mainly responsible for the phenotype of an individual.

They overcome the effect of recessive gene for example when we take a example of pea plant red colour express because of the dominant gene.

Recessive genes only express their character if both the allele is present.
