I believe the answer is contemplation. The reason why is because during this stage of change, a person is aware they have a problem so they spend time thinking about that problem. Where as in the pre-contemplation stage, the person is not even thinking about the problem. In the preparation stage the person has thought about the problem, and is now making a commitment to change.
