Why is rapid defibrillation important to adult survival?

Rapid defibrillation is one of the major contributors to survival of adult victims of sudden cardiac arrest, together with the cardiopulmonary resus (CPR).
An automated external defibrillator (AED) is a portable device that checks the heart rhythm and can send an electric shock to the heart to try to restore a normal rhythm. That is the reason why is so important in first help to adult survival.

If it's a smaller child or infant, place one on the middle of the chest and on the child's back. (if it is a bigger child with enough room for two, place one on the upper right/your left of the chest, and one on the lower left/your right) the pads should never touch each other.
