In May 2016, scientists discovered a eukaryote organism from a group known as Monocercomonoides that lacks functional mitochondria. Research this organism, and answer these questions: 1. Does this organism still meet the definition of a eukaryote? Why or why not?
2. Why can this organism survive without mitochondria?
3. Without mitochondria, does this organism still carry out all the basic functions of life?
