1. Survival needs - our most basic need. this includes things like food, O2, water, sleep, and protection.
2.physical safety needs - it is important for an individual to feel freedom from fear of personal harm
3. love and belonging - this refers to having a place in a particular group.
4. esteem needs - people have a need to feel value, to have respect from others and self-respect--which is having worthwhile skills, abilities, and potentialities.
5. self-actualization needs - these are needs that pertain to having a sense of purpose. this need is dependent on the prior needs being met.
