Discuss the growing concerns over credibility of online medical resources

Although it is undeniable that online medical sources have become a huge and very important means of allowing people to become engaged in the process of healthcare knowledge acquirement, and information, these sources have also become a problem for healthcare professionals as many of them are not regulated in the content and validity of the information that they distribute, and can rather become sources of misinformation.

Therefore, many members of the healthcare community, doctors, nurses, researchers, specialists of different healthcare fields, have voiced their preocupation with the growing number of sites that offer medical information on different conditions, but a lot of them, without having the back-up of proper professional revision. This has meant that although the public now have more and more access to medical knowledge, this knowledge may not always be accurate, valid, or updated and this is generating tension, and problems between healthcare providers and patients and their families.

What is needed, I believe, is for regulations to bet set forth on the type of medical content that is allowed to be published on internet, for controls to be set up, and if sites are found to be distributing incorrect, invalid, or not updated information, they must be taken down and not allowed to function.
