Why do psychiatrists ask how many windows were in your childhood home?

Psychiatrists start with this question as it gives them an insight into the Long-term memory of the subject because the subject has to recall and walk through the image of their house in their head to actually count the windows.

To better diagnose and rehabilitate their subject psychiatrists must have detailed information about their subject and gaining information about STM (Short term memory) and LTM (Long Term memory) is one of the basics.
