Title IX is definitely a less than perfect piece of legislation because, although it promises equality, it is difficult to be enforced. A college may reject as many female students as it wants as long as it meets a “quota,” purely due to the fact that the students are female, but they can excuse the discrimination with easy lies that can’t be properly disputed. The idea of Title IX has good intentions, but it is simply too difficult to enforce. There is no way to prove a college or any other public facility is discriminating against someone purely based on sex, so Title IX can be rendered useless in many cases. However, it sets a precedent for colleges to follow; though it’s hard to catch a facility violating this legislation with solid proof, if they are, they will be shamed and punished severely. Though Title IX is not a perfect piece of legislation, it’s an important step in the direction of equality for men and women in all situations, not just attending colleges.
