Which advantages did the british have over the colonist during the american war for independence

Even though the people of the New World had the advantage of knowing the land they were fighting in, the British had a better army and better weapons. The New World just had a group of militia, which is people who formed an army but are not quite trained to fight, while the British had an actual prepared army who knew what they were doing.
