In what way did thriving argicluture lead to development of meso american cities?

When man discovered how to plant edible crops, it established the dawn of agriculture.  They can now settle in one area and can also raise their own livestock.  This gave rise to cities as population grew.  Small huts were replaced by tall structures as more people have started settling into these new cities.
