How was the general community structure in the southern english colonies different from that of the puritan communities?

The colonies of the South focused on agriculture with a large population of slaves. Hence, they developed the plantations, which exported various agricultural products including, cotton, tobacco, vegetables etc. whereas the social unit for the Puritans were the towns, they shared a strong sense of community. Puritan's every new settlement drew up a bond binding all members in a social and religious pledge for integration and harmony. Colonial government did not interfere in the affairs of the puritan's town activities.
